Welcome to MAWRch! January and February brought us everything from snow, rain and ice, to a beautiful 60 degree day in the middle of a mostly frosty week. The gusty winds earlier this week certainly remind me of the old saying “in like a lion” and let’s just hope what’s next is “out like a lamb!” We have made it through the serious part of winter, and provided I haven’t just jinxed us all, we should see more frequent signs of spring from now on. MAWRch promises adventures like Marwtian Madness, the Greek Myth Play, the return of lacrosse on the turf, and of course, spring break.

While the winter months may have had their share of ugly weather days, you’ll see in this newsletter that there were plenty of shining moments here at Bryn Mawr. From cultural celebrations for the Lunar New Year and Black History Month, to our athletes, dancers and artists shining at Bryn Mawr and beyond, our community had a lot to celebrate. The Student Center project began with an exciting and festive groundbreaking, celebrating our growth as a school and the first of a new Bryn Mawr tradition—Daisy Day! To honor our donors who have so loyally supported the school, we will give back to our community on the last Friday of each January and wear our daisy best. Campus service, school spirit and sisterhood will be at the heart of these celebrations. What a great way to commemorate the largesse of our extended community!

Speaking of our community, we were happy to welcome so many wonderful alumnae back to campus to engage with current students. From our Alumnae Convocation with the class of 1969, who will celebrate their 50th reunion in May, to alumnae from the 90s returning for our MLK Day Convocation to reflect on the female leaders of the Civil Rights Movement and share memories from their time at Bryn Mawr, there was no shortage of alumnae, both near and far, to connect with and support our students. We also welcomed back Annie Sherman ‘09 to teach a dance and vocal workshop for students while she was in Baltimore for the broadway production of The King and I at the Hippodrome, another great example of Bryn Mawr girls shining wherever they are.

In the February season of love, it’s been great to Shout the Love for our school and Baltimore community in so many ways. If you haven’t read this adorable story about one of our Bryn Mawr kindergartners, I highly recommend it to you. This is a fantastic example of the home-school partnership that fosters strong habits of heart and mind in our students. Every day, I have the privilege of seeing this come to life. Whether it's in the classroom, on the playground, on the athletic fields, or on stage, the Bryn Mawr community helps students recognize their own potential and capabilities.

We have had an exciting couple of months full of wonderful student and faculty accomplishments. We’re more that 100 days smarter and look to the future with Vision and Voice, as do our eighth graders. The sophomore class is shining with a little extra ring bling, and Mawrtian Nation is full of spirit. I look forward to the rising temperatures and excitement that spring will bring, and hope this MAWRch is more lamb than lion.

Cheers,
