Flexible Tuition Program

The cost of educating a student at Bryn Mawr – with our personalized attention, stellar faculty, state-of-the art facilities and myriad opportunities beyond the classroom – is substantial. We recognize that the tuition and fees can feel prohibitive to many families and we are committed to making Bryn Mawr accessible and affordable for the family of each student we admit regardless of financial circumstances. In return, we seek families who will place the educational experience of their child as a priority in budgeting their financial resources and in their commitment of time.

Who Should Apply?

We value a diverse school community that includes students with a variety of economic backgrounds. We offer tuition payment options and award approximately $6 million in tuition assistance each year to more than one-third of our families. Flexible Tuition awardees include middle-income families, families with relatively high income who have multiple children in private schools, and those whose financial circumstances qualify them for a grant near the full cost of tuition and fees.

Families interested in the Flexible Tuition program submit information about their financial resources to Clarity and we use standard criteria to evaluate a family’s ability to pay the tuition. While it is difficult to define a “typical” Flexible Tuition candidate, common threads among families who qualify are factors like income, the number of children in a family, and lifestyle choices.

Flexible Tuition Application Steps

Step 1

Action: To get started, please go to the Clarity application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. You are also able to save your progress and return anytime. In the application, you will sign and submit a Form 4506c, which will give Clarity permission to pull your prior year tax returns. This means that you don’t have to upload any of them yourself!

At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools.

Due Date: December 15, 2024

Step 2

Action: Submit 2024 W2 form(s) to Clarity
Due DateFeb. 1, 2025

It is imperative for families to adhere to the Flexible Tuition application deadlines. Requests submitted after December 15 may not be included in the initial allocation of financial aid. As a result, funds may not be available to families who qualify if the application is submitted after the deadline.

General Policies

List of 2 items.

  • Divorced Parents Policy

Both parents must fill out a Parents' Financial Statement. We will consider the assets of both parents, natural and/or adoptive, if living, before making any award. If the custodial parent has remarried, the committee will consider the assets of the stepparent while keeping in mind the stepparent's obligations to his or her own children.
  • Parent, Guardian and Step-Parent Policy

In accordance with our policy concerning parents, guardians, and stepparents, please provide the Bryn Mawr Flexible Tuition Program with complete income information by submitting the financial information on one Clarity application or by submitting individual Clarity applications for each parent, guardian and stepparent.

Merit Scholarships

The Bryn Mawr School is pleased to provide both merit and need-based scholarships to qualifying students who embody the values and mission of The Bryn Mawr School.

Head of School Awards

New Middle and Upper School students receive consideration for a Head of School Award, a partial tuition scholarship. Award recipients are chosen based on exceptional academic performance, strong personal integrity, leadership potential, and significant involvement in the community. All applicants who submit their admission application by the deadline will automatically be considered for one of these awards, which are communicated with admission acceptance. The Head of School Award is renewable annually, provided the student continues to demonstrate high academic achievement and solid character.

Named Scholarships

Each year, a number of Middle and Upper School students are awarded named scholarships honoring their exceptional academic potential and outstanding personal qualities. These students benefit from financial support provided by funds created by long-time supporters and friends of Bryn Mawr. Named scholarship recipients must apply and qualify for need-based financial aid through our regular Flexible Tuition Program. Incoming student recipients will be notified with their acceptance communication.
