A Note From Sue

Our Founders Day last week was an amazing celebration of the 135-year history of Bryn Mawr! I continue to be inspired by our mission to educate confident, knowledgeable, passionate women leaders of the future. I have the privilege of seeing this in action every day, and whether it’s hearing our students on NPR calling for immediate action on climate change, or seeing a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis with the Little Schoolers, the unfolding of an education is a beautiful process. Bryn Mawr’s history coupled with its forward-facing orientation allows us to move confidently into a future where independent schools will be challenged to prove our worth.

After just a month of enjoying the new Student Center, it’s hard to imagine our campus without it. With 30,000 square feet of new and refreshed facilities throughout KVB Gym, the dining hall and Centennial Hall complex, the new space enables the entire community to enjoy common spaces, new fitness areas, theater improvements, a cafe, fantastic outdoor seating and more. It represents the biggest change to our campus in quite a few years, and it is living up to all of our hopes. Coupled with other improvements to walkways, the Brynmawrket and the Old Gym, the campus is looking renewed, updated, and inspiring for everyone.

Later this month, we are excited to host the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools Education Symposium at Bryn Mawr and look forward to an excellent in-house professional development opportunity. All of our faculty and many of our staff members will attend the conference. Many of our Bryn Mawr faculty are presenting sessions, sharing their expertise with other girls’ school educators from across the country. I hope you’ll join us for a talk on October 17 by researcher Sally Nuamah, who has studied what helps girls achieve around the world. Her research in South Africa, Ghana and the U.S. is a testament to the power and necessity of girls’ education!

But we already know that! This is such an exciting time to be at Bryn Mawr. I wish you a great year ahead.

Cheers!
