Academics at The Bryn Mawr School take many different forms. From the joyful, play-based curriculum used in our Little School to the challenging, supportive academics in our Upper School, Bryn Mawr students experience the many delights and demands of education. Our goal is to help all of our students develop and cultivate a lifelong love of learning. We strive to make learning both fun and challenging, and we focus on developing the whole child—mentally, physically, socially and emotionally.

Bryn Mawr raises the bar for our students, and supports them as they strive to reach it. We are the school for those who value education as the key to a successful life, both in college and beyond. We balance superior academics with a nurturing environment, supporting each student at every turn. We are home to a spirited sisterhood where lifelong friendships are formed.

Little School

The Bryn Mawr Little School offers early childhood education for students ages 3 months to 5 years. The Little School program is designed to provide ample opportunities for children to socialize, play, learn and express their individuality in a nurturing and accepting environment. Children spend their time painting, building with blocks, sharing stories, playing dress-up, dancing and singing, riding trikes, making their own books and taking the time for rest and naps. The program strives to balance the day so children can grow and learn in healthy, unhurried and age-appropriate ways. Learn more...

Lower School

The Lower School at Bryn Mawr includes kindergarten through grade 5. The academic program focuses on building an educational foundation, and offers a well-rounded curriculum that combines fun with superior academics during the school day. The goal of the Lower School is to create confident explorers and inspire lifelong learning. Teachers use a combination of project-, experience- and team-based techniques to provide a stimulating environment that meets the individual needs of each girl. Within a supportive and nurturing all-girls environment, the Lower School program promotes safe risk-taking and capacity building to prepare students for the next level.

Middle School

The Middle School at Bryn Mawr includes grades 6 through 8. The focus of the Middle School years is on skills and process, in order to prepare girls for the academic challenges of the Upper School. As students transition from the grade-less Lower School to a more structured system, teachers emphasize learning to think over rote memorization. Girls are supported at every turn as they experiment with new ideas and ways of learning, develop study skills and habits and learn to take responsibility for themselves and for the broader community.

Upper School

The Upper School at Bryn Mawr includes grades 9 through 12. The curriculum of the Upper School is designed to prepare students for the nation's most selective colleges. Students put the skills they have learned previously to good use, exploring complex ideas in Harkness discussions, teaming with classmates for interdisciplinary projects, and taking initiative in independent study opportunities. Emphasis is placed on each girl learning to think for herself, and students have the support of their teachers and the Upper School community as they set and achieve ambitious academic goals.
