Middle School Summer Session

Middle School Summer Session offers summer courses designed to provide additional practice and review in Math and English. The program is free of charge to current and incoming students. All courses will be taught by a Bryn Mawr teacher.

Currently, Middle School Summer Session is scheduled as an on-campus program. We will update registered students and families this summer if it needs to be changed to a distance learning format.

  • Rising 6th Grade Math

    For Students Entering 6th Grade

    This course includes a review of basic math facts as well as general problem solving. Topics covered include: decimals, fractions, percents, integers, order of operations, and expression work with variables. The goal of the course is to strengthen basic math skills, to build confidence and comfort with mathematics, and to have fun while doing it.
  • Rising 7th Grade Math

    For Students Entering 7th Grade

    This course includes a review of basic math facts as well as general problem solving. Topics covered include: decimals, fractions, percents, rational numbers, geometry (area, perimeter), expressions, and one- and two-step equations. The goal of the course is to strengthen basic math skills, to build confidence and comfort with mathematics, and to have fun while doing it.
  • Rising 8th Grade Math

    For Students Entering 8th Grade

    During this course, concepts from 7th grade Pre-Algebra will be reviewed. Topics covered include: simplifying expressions containing rational numbers, percents, multi-step equations, inequalities, and graphing linear equations. The goal of the course is to strengthen basic math skills, to build confidence and comfort with mathematics, and to have fun while doing it.
  • Rising 6th, 7th, 8th Grade English

    For Students Entering 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades
    Students will be taught in grade-specific classes

    This program will reinforce reading and writing skills acquired in the previous grade. Each student will have the opportunity to improve her writing skills through the drafting and revision of both critical and creative writing. Critical thinking and vocabulary skills will be revisited using a required summer reading book. Small group conversations, one-on-one writing workshops, and independent reading assignments will build each girl’s confidence and ability to succeed in her fall English class.


  • Rising 6th, 7th, 8th Grade French

    For Students Entering 6th through 8th Grades

    This program is for any student new to the Middle School who needs or would like support with language learning. This includes students who have had limited or no experience with French at their former schools or rising sixth graders at Bryn Mawr who need support with language learning, based on recommendation by Lower School language teachers. Students will brush up on the basics or learn them with peers who are new to French. Topics include: greetings, numbers, subject pronouns, adjective agreement, and some regular verbs in present tense. Classes will be conducted largely in the target language with some written practice.
