DECA Students Qualify for International Career and Development Conference

Four Bryn Mawr students are California-bound after qualifying for the International Career and Development Conference. They were part of a 22-student delegation from Bryn Mawr’s DECA club competing in the State Career and Development Conference in College Park, MD in February. DECA is an international organization that helps prepare students to be leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. The students faced a field of 650 competitors.

At the international competition, Maia Henry ’25 will compete in a role-play activity in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Series. She receives a case study and has ten minutes to create and present a marketing plan centered around sports or entertainment to a panel of judges. Meanwhile, ninth grade team Ava Richman, Narah Kang, and Zoya Rizvi will be competing in the Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research event. They presented a 21-page research-backed proposal for the Baltimore restaurant chain, Miss Shirley’s. They conducted interviews with employees as well as one of the co-owners and researched the company before concluding on best practices and next steps to recommend in their report.

Bryn Mawr chapter co-leader Aanya Kheterpal ’25 was elected to the DECA State Officer team as Vice President for the Maryland region and will also travel to Anaheim as a leader for Region Four DECA.  Aanya and her co-leaders, Shreya Srivastava ’24 and Michelle Dong ’25 were also instrumental in helping teams prepare for the state competition.
