Twenty-five Members of the Class of 2023 Receive National Merit and College Board Recognition

Twenty-five Bryn Mawr seniors, approximately one third of the Class of 2023, are receiving national recognition for their academic achievements this year.  Three seniors have been named National Merit Finalists.
Makenna Bachman, Christina Biuckians and Storrie Kulynych-Irvin have been named National Merit Finalists. The distinction of finalist is given to roughly 1% of high school seniors nationwide.  Finalists are competing for 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered in March.

Thirteen students were named National Merit Commended Scholars based on their results from PSAT/NMSQT- Lucia Ayala, Samantha Brecher, Charlotte Cameron, Jane Eiswert, Clare Gibson, Francesca Polito, Macon Purcell, Sophia Sabatino, Annie Soon, JJ Suriano, Reese Woodworth, Yasmine Worley and Caroline Q Wu.

Ten seniors were honored in the National Recognition Program for their academic achievements and outstanding performances on the PSAT, SAT and AP exams.  Arreyelle Wilson, Katie Nelson, Kellsie Lewis, Merriwether King, Naria Lemma, Olivia Hood and Sabrina Macarthur were given the National African American Recognition Award.  Kiara Dresp Pedra, Lucia Ayala and Mariana Reedich were given the National Hispanic Recognition Award.

All high school students who complete the PSAT or NMSQT prior to finishing their junior year are eligible for the National Merit Scholarship program based on their academic aptitude and likely success in a strenuous college environment.  Students who are named Semifinalists or Commended Scholars must meet or exceed a selection index based upon their scores.  These indices vary by state, with Maryland having one of the highest indexes in the nation.
