Alumnae Weekend 2017

Alumnae Weekend 2017 was a wonderful success. Reunion year alumnae from classes ending in 2 and 7 returned to Bryn Mawr to celebrate their classes and the school. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces around campus! At the Alumnae Luncheon on Saturday, reunion giving awards were announced and individual award winners were celebrated. See below for more information about the honored classes and alumnae, as well as more photos from the weekend.

Reunion Participation Award & Overall Reunion Gift Award - Class of 1967

The Reunion Participation Award goes to the class with the most outstanding participation in its reunion gift effort. This year, the Class of 1967 took it home with 90% participation! The Overall Reunion Gift Award goes to the reunion class that raises the most money overall for Bryn Mawr. Annual Fund gifts as well as all other contributions – to capital projects and to the endowment – are included. This year, the Class of 1967 raised a grand total of $105,000. Congratulations!

Reunion Gift Award - Class of 1972

The Reunion Gift Award goes to the class that raises the most in terms of dollars for the Annual Fund in its reunion year. Reunion giving dollars are critical to the school because they go immediately, during the current school year, to support our teachers and students. Thanks to their generosity, the members of Class of 1972 won this year’s Reunion Gift Award, raising over $86,000 for Bryn Mawr’s Annual Fund. Thank you!

Young Alumnae Participation Award - Class of 2012

The Young Alumnae Participation Award goes to one of the four youngest reunion classes with the highest class participation in its reunion giving effort. This year’s recipient is the Class of 2012, celebrating its fifth reunion, with 58 percent participation!

Anne Edmunds Croker Award – Lee Lafferty Broh-Kahn ’82

This award is given by the Alumnae Association to an alumna whose dedication to the school and participation in volunteer activities has been exemplary. This year’s award winner, Lee Lafferty Broh-Kahn '82, is one of Bryn Mawr’s most dedicated Annual Fund volunteers.  Over the years she has served on her reunion committee, been a class captain and volunteered as alumnae chair of the Annual Fund. She is also part of a three-generation Bryn Mawr family that includes her mother, Lynn DeGroff Lafferty '51 and her daughter, Rebekah Broh-Kahn '13.

Young Alumnae Award - Sadiya Muqueeth ’02

The Young Alumnae Award is given to an alumna who has graduated within the last 20 years and who has distinguished herself professionally or in the community. This year's recipient, Sadiya Muqueeth '02, is currently a doctoral student at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She is interested in building more resilient health systems, internationally, nationally and locally, by removing barriers to health for marginalized populations. Muqueeth also works as a consultant for the World Health Organization. Her mother, Farzana, is a long-time member of Bryn Mawr's Little School faculty.

Distinguished Alumnae Award - Allison Stockman '92

The Alumnae Association gives this Distinguished Alumnae award to an alumna who embodies the highest ideals of the school through her professional or volunteer commitments. Leadership, a humanistic spirit, creativity, community involvement and professional achievement are among the qualities that are considered.

After realizing that she wanted to expand beyond teaching and directing high school theater, Allison Stockman '92 started the Constellation Theatre Company. Known for her bold set design, Stockman has directed over 23 Constellation productions including "Avenue Q," which received 14 Helen Hayes Award nominations and won seven awards, including Outstanding Director and Outstanding Musical. Stockman has also worked with the Folger Theater and the Shakespeare Theater Company. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Religion from Princeton.

Senior Alumnae Award -
Leslie Bedford '62

The Senior Alumnae Award is given to an alumna who graduated 40 or more years ago and who has made a significant contribution to the community as a dedicated volunteer or as a career professional.

After spending a year living in Kyoto, Japan, and becoming fascinated with the country and culture, Leslie Bedford '62 went on to work in and eventually direct the Japan Program Area at the Boston Children’s Museum. There, she spent 13 years helping to revolutionize the understanding of museum learning and the value of a visitor-centered practice. In 1986 she began a Fulbright Fellowship to plan what would become Teen Tokyo, an educational experience for American children to learn about Japanese culture. Later, Bedford became the director of the Leadership in Museum Education program at Bank Street College’s Graduate School of Education in New York City. By the time she retired in 2013, the program had become one of the most respected graduate programs in museum studies in the country. She also received the Ida Karp Teaching Award from the Bank Street Alumnae Association in 2013.
