The Dance School at Bryn Mawr offers afternoon dance classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, and Jazz Funk/Hip Hop to children from kindergarten through grade eight.

2026-2027 Class Offerings

The Dance School offers the following classes:

Intro to Dance- Ballet and Jazz
(Girls, grades K-1)

Lyrical for grades 2-5
(divided by grade: 2-3 and 4-5)

Tap for grades 2-8
(divided by grades: 2-4, 5-8)

Jazz Funk/Hip Hop for grades 2-8
(divided by grades: 2-4, 5-8)

Ballet/Lyrical for grades 6-8

Ballet is a classical form of dance that often serves as a strong foundation for dancers. This class will begin with the basics and, in a structured yet friendly environment, encourage dancers to refine their technique and dance vocabulary. Lyrical dance is a fluid and expressive style that combines elements of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. It focuses on conveying emotion and storytelling through movement, often performed to music with meaningful lyrics.

Jazz for grades 6-8

Lower School Dance Company

Lower School Dance Company grades 4-6. (MUST be enrolled in both Ballet and Jazz classes at Bryn Mawr Dance School). This is a year-long commitment where dancers will work on extra choreography for the April performance and have additional performance opportunities throughout the year. These additional performances include, but are not limited to, the Thanksgiving convocation, the Middle School Dance Company show, and one dance competition in the spring.

Dance School Pricing

45-Minute Classes

2026-27 class fees for 45-minute classes. These prices are for the entire session- the discounted rates are for individuals taking more than one class and/or if siblings are enrolled in classes:

1-Hour Classes

2026-27 class fees for classes that are 1 hour in length (Middle School); price is for the entire session and will be billed in full after the first week of classes:

Dance School Uniform

The Dance School at Bryn Mawr uses Discount Dance Supply as our uniform supplier. Please read the below information and directions carefully.

The basic uniform for all classes is as follows but please see specific styles as listed on the Discount Dance Supply website (directions at the bottom):

Uniform Requirements

The basic uniform for all classes is as follows:

Ballet:
Black tank style leotard (no decoration, writing, etc), black chiffon ballet skirt, ballet pink tights and pink ballet slippers
Jazz:
Black tank style leotard (no decoration, writing, etc), plain black dance leggings (no writing, designs, emblems, etc), black jazz shoes
Lyrical:
Same as Jazz
Tap:
Black lace up tap shoes, black tank style leotard (no decoration, writing, etc), plain black dance leggings (no writing, designs, emblems, etc)
Jazz Funk/ Hip Hop:
Comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows for freedom of movement such as leggings, shorts, tank tops, tshirts, sweatpants and sneakers.
K-1 Intro to Dance:
Pink ballet slippers and black jazz shoes. K-1 dancers will not be required to change into dance attire (aside from their dance shoes) and can remain in BMS school uniform.

Important Uniform Notes

Please note that we use some pieces of the uniform for our performance and, therefore, it is important that you purchase the correct items. Leotards and pants should be PLAIN - no jewels, writing, colored waistbands, etc.
Shoes are the same styles as we have used previously - no need to buy new shoes unless your child outgrows those that she is wearing.
The leotard color for ALL classes is black

Spring Performance

Sunday, April 18, 2027
(all rehearsals will be held on 4/17/27)

PLEASE NOTE: Parents are not permitted inside the dance studios to observe classes as it can be distracting to the dancers. The 2027 dance season will conclude with a performance on Sunday, April 18, 2027 at 3:00 p.m. Rehearsals for the show will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2027.

Attendance/Absences

Please notify Allyson DiMilia via email should your child be absent from school or not attending class. While it is understood that certain circumstances arise causing a dancer to miss class, dancers are expected to attend all scheduled classes as it is vital to their progress and that of the class. Missing classes is difficult for the dancer, the teacher, and her classmates.
