Bryn Mawr Earns AP Computer Science Diversity Award
The College Board awarded The Bryn Mawr School the 2019 AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for helping to close the gender gap in the field.
Out of 20,000 institutions offering AP courses, Bryn Mawr is one of 818 to earn the award this year, and one of only 143 schools to earn the award for AP Computer Science A.
Bryn Mawr has more than doubled student enrollment in Computer Science courses since 2013. Ten courses are currently offered in the Upper School, including Honors Programming iPhone Apps, Industrial Design, Robotics and Advanced Topics in Computer Science. Additionally, every student in grades K-8 takes Computer Science, covering topics such as programming, robotics, and computational thinking.
According to the College Board, "Studying computer science can open doors for students, giving them the tools to excel, and setting them up for high-paying careers, but girls have been left behind for far too long. That’s why College Board is honoring schools for engaging more female students in their AP computer science classes and for the important steps they’re taking to reach gender parity."
