Brooke Matthews Named Assistant Coach for Women’s Lacrosse U-19 National Team

Bryn Mawr’s varsity lacrosse coach and assistant athletic director was selected as an assistant coach for the U.S. women’s U-19 national team by US Lacrosse. Matthews will be one of four assistant coaches to help lead the 2019 team, under the direction of Head Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller.
“I am extremely honored to be a part of this staff,” said Matthews. “It is going to be a blast. We all truly love the sport of lacrosse…It is going to be a new challenge for all of us and I am excited for this opportunity.”

Matthews is in her first year as Bryn Mawr’s assistant athletic director and varsity lacrosse coach. Under her leadership, the varsity team is currently undefeated, and ranked 17th nationally and 4th in the state. Before coming to Bryn Mawr, she was an assistant coach at Penn State from the 2013 through 2017 seasons, helping the Nittany Lions reach the NCAA semifinals for two seasons. She previously served as an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary’s. As a player, Matthews was a four-year starting midfielder and three-time national champion at Northwestern (2008-09-11), helping the Wildcats win 85 games in her four seasons.

“We had a truly outstanding pool of applicants for these positions,” said Ann Kitt Carpenetti, vice president of lacrosse operations for US Lacrosse. “This group has achieved remarkable success in their careers.”
