Wellness Lunch: Ethics and Empathy in a Household of Smart Phones

Please join the Bryn Mawr Parents’ Association Wellness Committee and The Ethics Institute of Kent Place School for "Ethics and Empathy in a Household of Smart Phones" on Friday, April 13, at 11:30 a.m. at Coppermine Fieldhouse at Mt. Washington.
What does teaching our children values look like in this digital age? How can parents be effective digital role models? This workshop will explore the central ethical questions about e-communication and social media use, and the challenges of "posting" rather than "speaking," of "emojis" rather than "words," of "profiles" rather than "persons." Participants will develop a common language for facilitating conversations with children and teens about ethics and empathy within our social media-saturated culture.

The Kent Place Ethics Institute is a first-of-its-kind institute at the primary and secondary level that promotes the practice of ethical thinking and decision making in children. Ethics Institute Director Dr. Karen Rezach and Program Coordinator Dr. Eva Lazar visited campus last year and their engaging presentations to parents and students made us want to continue our work together.
