Middle School Wellness Event

Join the Bryn Mawr Parent Wellness Committee on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 7:00 PM for a virtual discussion with author Michelle Icard on how to navigate the social world of Middle School. Icard is a member of the TODAY Show parenting team and her work has been featured in The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, CNN, Time, and People Magazine.

Icard’s most recent book, FOURTEEN TALKS BY AGE FOURTEEN: The Essential Conversations You Need to Have with Your Kids Before They Start High School, was just recommended this month by The New York Times

The Bryn Mawr community is invited to submit questions anonymously and Michelle will work with the group to talk through potential solutions and guidance.  She’ll also cover practical advice about middle school that you can easily initiate including:

•    Learning a new language to communicate with tweens and teens more effectively
•    Three things every kid needs to build to become an adult
•    What brain science teaches us about communication with adolescents (and what works with colleagues and clients, too)
•    How to transition from your child's micromanager to assistant manager
•    Why adolescents are drawn to take risks and how parents can keep them safe
•    Tips for broaching sensitive, awkward, or emotionally charged conversations with kids
