      Head of School

As I was reminded last week by our very energetic pre-first graders (who keep track of this sort of thing), we’ve had 43 school days and are in our tenth week of classes. Those weeks have flown by, and it’s hard to believe that soon the Upper School will be sending out the first round of comments, the Lower and Little Schools will be hosting their first parent conferences, the Middle Schoolers are changing squads and our beloved Class of ’18 is hitting “Submit” on college applications. We are already a quarter of the way into this school year, and what a joy it has been for me to begin to know the girls, the faculty, the programs and so many families! Bryn Mawr truly is a special place filled with special people.

I want to commend our seniors on their tremendous attitude and leadership. This time of year, I am struck by their tenacity and grit as they manage multiple school responsibilities and the college process simultaneously. They are navigating the toughest part of the curriculum, leading their organizations, managing senior year responsibilities and still finding time to be together in their final year at Bryn Mawr. Throughout it all, they have been great role models for the younger students. They are kind, loyal and spirited.

Following the lead of the Class of ’18, I’ve been so pleased to see a renewed energy on campus around our Mawrtian Nation. This is a school that loves to celebrate! From Meet the Head events this summer to Founders Day, Spirit Day and grade level parent parties, there has been enthusiastic participation from so many members of our community. I look forward to the relaunch of our house system, and know that will be a true cause for celebration.

Meanwhile, Mother Nature has been smiling on us with sunny days and moderate temperatures. I hope you enjoy reading about the many things that have happened on campus recently. It’s been an exciting month full of wonderful student and faculty accomplishments. As the days shorten and the weather turns brisker, may our sunny mood will stay with us.

Cheers,
