House Launch

In February, Bryn Mawr proudly re-launched the House System, a tradition for students, faculty and staff. The House System fosters a sense of pride, spirit, and joy around campus as the community connects across grades and academic divisions. Everyone was assigned to one of the five houses; Daisies, Moons, Stars, Owls, and Suns. Assignment were revealed for Lower Schoolers during assembly and Middle and Upper School students received student-made videos via email announcing their houses. Then, the entire community gathered for music, dancing and a little competition.

Upper School Dance Company

The Upper School Dance Company really put on a show with their annual concert! Emily Tankersley and guest choreographers Rakiya Brown and Anne O’Brien put together an amazing show that featured a mix of styles including tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern and more. It also showcased choreography from seniors Raven Brown, Grace Heffernan, Bozhena Kulchyckyj and Sarah Seville. Another highlight of the show was a special performance from some of our Lower School dancers. Congratulations to all!

Second Grade Pioneer Picnic

The second grade had a great time dressing up, eating a picnic lunch with their families and showing off the songs and line dances they have been learning at this year's Pioneer Picnic! The picnic is the culmination of their unit on the Oregon Trail.

Tower of Power

Each year, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students participate in the  Johns Hopkins University Tower of Power Competition. The competition challenges middle school students to build the tallest free-standing tower they can using only dry spaghetti and marshmallows in 30 minutes. Students always enjoy themselves, and have placed in the top three in previous years.

China Day

In February, the Lower School celebrated the Lunar New Year by dressing in red and gold. As part of their global studies focus, the fourth grade also enjoyed "China Day" activities that included learning to write calligraphy, acting out scenes from stories and making Chinese lanterns. Special thanks to our parent volunteers who helped in the classrooms!

Sophomore Ring Luncheon

The class of 2020 celebrated being halfway through sophomore year with the annual Ring Luncheon. Vicky Miyamoto and the sophomore class parents put on a red carpet event complete with music and trivia from DJ Detorie. The girls had a blast showing off their class rings on this milestone day.

Library Book Match Up

In February, Middle School students played matchmaker as part of the library’s Book Match Up event. 42 students filled out a request form listing what characteristics they were looking for in a book (genre, great plot, relatable characters etc.) Then, a group of students looked at the forms, matched every girl with a book and wrapped them. On Valentine's Day, the students were invited to bring lunch to the library for the celebration. They unwrapped the books and were serenaded by Dayseye.

Lower School Yoga

Lower School students have the opportunity to participate in a new after school Yoga club. Instructor Erin Tschantret leads students in a Vinyasa style class so they learn basic moves, develop body awareness, and learn how to link their breath with movement.

Welcome Prince Luc

The French and art departments teamed up to welcome internationally renowned artist Luckner Candio, a.k.a., Prince Luc to campus to kick off the WLC department's Art and Social Movement art opening. Prince Luc is a Haitian born artist whose works has been displayed in prominent galleries throughout the world, including the Louvre in Paris. Prince Luc hosted “ateliers artistiques” or art workshops in the Upper School art studio, and discussed the traditions and styles of Haitian art including the vital role of art in the reconstruction of Haiti after the earthquake of 2010 and Hurricane Matthew. Thank you to Rebecca Barck, Jenniffer Gray, Patricia Tamariz, Bethany McAndrew, Talia Busby Titus, Jeanette Budzik, Georgia Summers and Michael Robinson for creating this unique opportunity for students.

100 Days of School

100 days down! Students in the Lower and Little School marked the 100th day of school milestone with special homemade shirts, a parade, popsicles, and writing 100 things they love about Bryn Mawr!

Annie Jr.

This year’s Middle School Musical was one for the history books before the cast even took the stage! A Nor'easter became a bomb cyclone, the lights went out, and opening weekend was delayed. But the cast of Annie Jr. did not let that stop them from putting on a spectacular performance! They delighted the audience with classics from the musical like “Hard-Knock Life” and “Tomorrow.” Bravo to the entire cast and crew, and special thanks to Adrienne Knight, Julia Bielefeld, Todd Twining, Grace O'Keefe, Anne O'Brien, Michael Robinson and Alyson Shirk for all their hard work to get the girls ready!
