How wonderful the spring is in Baltimore! The campus is blooming with spring bulbs and flowering trees, and I have enjoyed seeing more girls and little children out and about on campus. Mawrtian Nation has really awakened with the rising temperatures and we thoroughly enjoyed our Spring Spirit Week, culminating in a great Spirit Day planned by our Athletic Association student leaders. Who doesn’t love a good dodgeball tournament?

Our first Friday Night Lights celebration was a home run! Mother Nature cooperated with warm temperatures and blue skies, making Miss Twist (an ice cream truck pictured above) the most popular spot at our after-school tailgate. We had a great turnout for all of our home athletic games, and later that evening our Mawrtian Lacrosse team delivered an exciting victory at the Johns Hopkins stadium. Our theater students also delighted their audience with their antics in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Thanks to all who came out to support our students!

I’ve traveled across the country this semester to meet with our alumnae in several cities Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Boston. With these trips and multiple on-campus gatherings, this has been a tremendous year of connecting with our extended school family. Not only has it been important for our alumnae to feel connected to a new administration, but it's been an education for me in what this school really means to its constituents. I am so impressed with Bryn Mawr’s influence on the women (and future women) we serve.

Whether they graduated one or 75 years ago, many alumnae talk about Bryn Mawr as a major force in their lives. Values, friendships and habits established at Bryn Mawr stand the test of time. At our Boston-area gathering, 93-year-olds Libby Bagley Gerlach '44 and Annabelle Cook Kellogg '44 reminded us of the importance of strong bodies in the aging process, citing none other than Gym Drill as the formative experience in impressing this upon them. Annabelle played lacrosse for Rosabelle Sinclair in her high school years; how about that for living history!

Also in the Boston area, a strong contingent of Bryn Mawr "seniors" takes classes at Harvard's Extension School, so a commitment to the life of the mind is also alive and well. I loved hearing their enthusiasm for artist Kerry James Marshall after a class focusing on his life and work. Rosalie Oster Kerr '59 remembers Bryn Mawr being the place of "little revolutions," and was delighted to hear about the outspoken spirit of today's girls. Alumnae across the country often ask if Bryn Mawr continues to be a place that develops independent thinking and voice. I assure them that, yes, while today's girls have many new opportunities, these things are the essence of a Bryn Mawr education and remain central to our mission.

Every day, I have the privilege of seeing this commitment to fostering strong habits of heart, mind and body come to life. Whether it's in the classroom, on the playground, on the athletic fields, or on stage, Bryn Mawr faculty and staff help students recognize their own potential and capabilities. It is my pleasure to bring news of that commitment to our extended community. I thank our Development team for their above and beyond work to introduce me to our Bryn Mawr family across the country.

We look forward to seeing you soon and hope to keep the spring celebrations going. Gym Drill and Bazaar are just a few days away. If you can’t make it to campus, click on our livestream link to watch from home!

Cheers,
