How has your Bryn Mawr experience prepared you for college?
I definitely feel prepared in an academic sense; I have a solid foundation in the humanities, math and science classes. The most valuable part of my Bryn Mawr experience was my personal development. I feel that I’m a completely different person, in a very good way, than when I started. I’m much more confident and able to advocate for myself.
Why Harvard?
I really like the humanities and want to study either history or English. Harvard’s humanities program has everything I am looking for – the ability to study in a tutorial setting, do some independent research, but also be in larger lectures if I want to get a taste of that. Moreover, like Bryn Mawr, Harvard makes an effort to foster a strong sense of community and support system with freshman entryways and the upperclassmen houses, which I really like.
Who was your most influential teacher at Bryn Mawr?
My most influential teacher was Dr. Kim Long Riley '79. She is so enthusiastic about history and helped me to understand that history is not just something in the past, but helps us to understand the present and inform decisions about the future. She changed my perspective and made me appreciate the humanities even more.
What are you looking forward to most?
I’m excited to start in a completely new environment, make new friends, and be exposed to a lot of different perspectives, which Bryn Mawr has already begun to do for me. There are really no limits on what I will be able to discover and experience, and I can’t wait to see how much I will have grown and learned by the end of college.
