Brigitte Bellini Mungo is a professional voice instructor and award-winning soprano, with over 25 years of teaching experience at the university level.

Mrs. Mungo’s students have gone on to study at such schools as the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, New England Conservatory, and The Moores School of Music at University of Houston; participate in Young Artist Programs such as, Martina Arroyo Prelude to Performance, Castleton Festival, Taos Opera Institute, CCM Summer Opera Festival, Utah Festival Opera, Opera Saratoga, and Opera in the Ozarks; and perform mainstage roles at Arizona Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Portland Opera, Dayton Opera, Virginia Opera, Toledo Opera, Nevada Opera, and Opera San Antonio; as well as becoming outstanding public educators across the country.

In demand as a voice clinician, she regularly adjudicates regional and state Solo and Ensemble contests, NATS competitions and provides master classes for high schools across the state. She is especially adept in Vocology, regarding the training and care of the professional voice. She has been an Artist-teacher in residence at the Cologne Opera House, and most recently she was invited to give a series of workshops in vocal health and training for the Docents at the Texas State Capitol.

Formally, Mrs. Mungo completed her training at The New England Conservatory where she received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, studying with Rita Beatie (a protégée of Eleanor Steber) and Edward Zambara. While still studying she won the College Division at the Northeast Chapter of NATS, the Eleanor Steber Award, the Kirsten Flagstad Award, and the Kern Career Grant with Sarasota Opera. As a professional, she studied with Patricia Misslin and with well-known voice therapist and trainer William Riley in New York City. In addition to her conservatory and professional training, she has continued study in both bel canto and Estill techniques to give students tools for Opera, Musical Theater or Contemporary styles.

Mrs. Mungo was one of the founding members of the voice faculty at The Actor’s Studio Drama School (as seen on Bravo’s Inside the Actor’s Studio). She has also served on the voice faculties of New York University, Texas State University, New York’s famed High School for the Performing Arts and The Horace Mann School. During these years she has also maintained private studios in New York City, Boulder, CO, San Marcos, TX and Baltimore. She also maintains her professional membership with the National Association for Teachers of Singing.

Mrs. Mungo has enjoyed success in Opera, Concert, and Recital. Performance highlights include Cio-Cio San from Madama Butterfly with the Colorado Symphony, Nedda from Pagliacci and Abigail Williams from The Crucible with DiCapo Opera Theater in New York City, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Opera NorthEast, and Rosalinda from Die Fledermaus with Opera Theater of Connecticut. She has also been featured at Central City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Sarasota Opera, and Cambridge Opera. Concert and recital work includes the Irving Symphony, Colorado Symphony and solo recitals at Tanglewood Music Center and Glimmerglass Opera. She can be heard in the role of Sarah in the 40th Anniversary production of The Ballad of Baby Doe with Central City Opera, released on Newport Classic.

Philosophically, Mrs.Mungo believes vocal technique should be liberating, not cumbersome, where breath and tension-free sound are the mainstays. To that end, she teaches all styles of singers and professional voice users. Today, she uses her training to support classical, Jazz, and Contemporary styles.
