I recently completed a 3 year residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine as well as a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences at Kansas State University. I am now a board certified specialist recognized by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and am starting a post doctoral fellowship in equine medicine at the University of Missouri.

This was a big year as my husband, Aaron, and I had our first baby--a son, Noah Sidney Shwom. He's 9 months old now and is super social and active. Noah can't walk yet, but he can crawl and pull up so I'm constantly following him all over the apartment. It's a lot of fun to watch his personality develop and I can't wait to hear what he has to say (he already says a lot, just not in a language I can understand!).

We still live in Cambridge, MA and I work in education. For the past 3+ years I've been part of Year Up, a workforce development non-profit focused on preparing low income urban young adults for professional careers. (I actually work alongside Laura Thompson Love '05.) People aren't joking about the challenges of work-life balance, which I guess is an ongoing dance.

I was sorry to miss our 15th reunion this year, but I had fun seeing everyone's updates on Facebook. I hope to make it to our 20th!

It's hard to believe that I am going into my 10th year of teaching at Gilman! I love my first grade boys who make me laugh every day. I got married to Alex Kimtis on July 29, 2017 and we felt lucky that many Mawrtians from the class of 1973 and 2005 were in attendance! We are thrilled to now be expecting a little boy in January!

I am continuing to live the Boston-area dream! I'm close to halfway through my master's degree in Software Development through Boston University (the alma mater) and I just started a new job with Microsoft! My dog Rocky and I are currently looking to relocate back to the Cambridge area where we thrived; there was a bit of housing shuffle that should resolve by September. Can't wait 'til the fall for scarf weather.

Every time I tune into the new STEM goings-on at BMS, my heart swells because I'm so happy that current students have so many opportunities. Please reach out for any Boston, BU, Microsoft, or STEM thoughts and questions!!!!

(To my surprise) I'm still living in Durham, North Carolina -- where I'm the Science Policy Program Director at Duke University. Excitingly, in September, I'll be transitioning into a role as the Southeast Regional Program Director for the Wilderness Society, while continuing to teach as an adjunct professor at Duke. I'm also continuing to run Kedge Conservation, my small non-profit providing adult education in rural sub-Saharan Africa, and am currently making plans for a 2019 Liberia project launch.

My husband, Aaron, and I recently moved to a lovely new townhouse in Brier Creek (just outside of Raleigh) and are still parents to Boh, the cutest Shiba Inu in the world. As the weather cools off after a hot NC summer, we're preparing for our annual trips to NYC in October and to DC in November (to commemorate my brother at his memorial in Oak Creek Cemetery), then our holiday pilgrimage to London in December.

    Amanda Yuen Yu
Finishing the final semester of 4 years as a School Counselor in southern China. Working at an American-curriculum school serving Chinese Nationals has been so rewarding, and I'll be moving 3 hours Southeast next school year to continue this journey. I've learned that community is everything, and this revelation started with my experience at Bryn Mawr. Hope the rest of the Class of 2008 is finding similar reward in their paths since our graduation. Sending love from China!
