Headmistresses of The Bryn Mawr School

The school was managed for the first eleven years by a series of four "Secretaries" who carried out the directives of M. Carey Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Garrett. It wasn't until 1896 that the Board of Managers brought in Edith Hamilton, (BA and MA, Bryn Mawr College) from her doctoral studies abroad as the first Headmistress of school.
