Dear Bryn Mawr Community,

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Ms. Diane Nichols to the position of Senior Director of Institutional Equity and Inclusive Practice at The Bryn Mawr School beginning July 1, 2020.

Ms. Nichols brings more than 25 years of experience in equity and inclusion work in independent schools, plus a background in professional counseling. As a senior administrator, she is well equipped and ready to lead Bryn Mawr in our work together to build an inclusive community and anti-racist culture.

Ms. Nichols is currently the Director of Equity and Inclusion at the Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh. She served as Director of Equity, Inclusion and Leadership for four years at Worcester Academy in Worcester, Massachusetts and for 17 years as Director of Multicultural Affairs at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Ms. Nichols is a licensed counselor with a B.A. in psychology and a M.Ed. in community counseling. She also holds a certification in organizational leadership from UMass Dartmouth and will complete her work with the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching in 2021.

Ms. Nichols has teaching experience with Middle and Upper School students in health, history, diversity courses and psychology, and has developed and overseen diversity-related initiatives and curriculum development starting with early childhood. In addition to her work as an advocate, educator and supporter of students, Ms. Nichols is well known and active in diversity, equity and inclusion work on the national level. She is a trainer for the Anti-Defamation League's World of Difference Institute, a faculty member for the National Association of Independent Schools' Student Diversity Leadership Conference, and a founding faculty member of the National Diversity Practitioners Institute.

Ms. Nichols tells us she looks forward to joining an educational setting where social justice and inclusive practices are woven into the fabric of the institution. "I am overjoyed by the opportunity to join The Bryn Mawr School community," she said. "At this particular time in my life, in this country, diversity, equity, inclusion and justice work is central. It is a moment where my personal and professional journeys have merged and my best self has emerged in all that I do and say. I am ready to make this amazing and timely transition into The Bryn Mawr School community."

I want to express my gratitude for Talia Titus and her leadership of Bryn Mawr's global programs and diversity, equity and inclusion work. She has guided the school with innovative programming, strong and meaningful relationships, and has laid a strong foundation on which to build. With deep appreciation for all that she has done for Bryn Mawr, we wish Talia well in her new role as the Director of Enrollment Management and Financial Aid at the Tatnall School in Wilmington, Delaware.

I am very excited to partner with Ms. Nichols as we lean into the equity and justice work ahead and make good on Bryn Mawr's commitment to become an anti-racist institution. Please join me in warmly welcoming her to the Bryn Mawr community.
