Position Summary
The Middle School Percussion Ensemble provides a foundation for theory and composition while emphasizing creativity, innovation and improvisation. The position includes teaching an ensemble of approximately 10-15 students with performances twice a year.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop note reading and rhythmic skills through performance and practice in a variety of styles and genres.
- Direct and lead percussion ensemble rehearsals, developing students’ technical skills, musicianship, and ensemble performance.
- Select and prepare appropriate repertoire that supports student growth and program goals.
- Provide instruction on a range of percussion instruments and techniques.
- Foster a collaborative, disciplined, and inclusive rehearsal environment.
Qualifications/Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Music or related field
- 3-5 years teaching experience, preferred
- Desire and ability to work with Middle School students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability, toward accomplishing their musical goals.
- Excellent communication skills with students, caregivers, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
- Facility with using a variety of pedagogical strategies.
- Commitment to using conversation norms and constructive engagement at all times with students, caregivers, colleagues and speaking positively about school and community members in all contexts.
Opportunities to participate in extracurricular programs (e.g., athletics, arts, after-school programming) are available.
Salary
- Bryn Mawr School follows a Faculty Salary Scale. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience, education, skills, and job-related responsibilities.
