Bryn Mawr Teaching Fellowships

Each year, Bryn Mawr offers fellowships to recent college graduates with a strong interest in pursuing a career in teaching. Fellows benefit from the coaching of a mentor teacher and a range of professional development experiences.

Specific classroom responsibilities for fellows vary based on both divisional placement and demonstrated readiness. Fellows typically co-teach with a mentor teacher and/or teach a reduced load while engaging fully in the life of the school. Fellows are integral and active members of the faculty through participation in athletics, arts, clubs, community programming and service learning. Individual interests, both in the classroom and beyond, will help shape each fellowship experience.

Fellowship Opportunities & Details

Dorothy Clayborne Fellowship

Established in 2021, the fellowship is named in honor of Dorothy Clayborne, the first Black teacher in Bryn Mawr's Lower School, who was a distinguished educator for more than 60 years. The Clayborne Fellowship is designed as a pathway for teachers from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in independent schools. The Fellowship is typically a one or two year opportunity.

Successful teaching fellow candidates share several traits. They:

Have a genuine interest in exploring all aspects of independent school teaching and learning including classroom instruction, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in extracurricular activities.
Express enthusiasm for Bryn Mawr’s mission of inspiring a passion for intellectual curiosity and nurturing the full potential of our young women in mind, body, and spirit.
Maintain an outstanding academic record and demonstrate a consistent passion for teaching and learning, evidenced by experience in camps or youth programs, teaching internships, or advanced studies within their field.
Exhibit a commitment to providing an education that is rooted in the ideals of equity and justice and that reflects the diverse identities, experiences, and voices of our constituents
Demonstrate a passion for teaching and the ability to receive and reflect on feedback to grow professionally from the experience.
