Bryn Mawr Dance
From learning folk dances for Gym Drill to participating in dance classes and Middle and Upper School Dance Company, the opportunities for dance education at Bryn Mawr are full of variety and style.
Lower School
Students participate in dance by engaging in movement exploration and creative dance activities. Girls also begin to learn folk and square dances, line dances, and Maypole dances.
Middle School
The dance experience expands, allowing students to explore multicultural and ethnic dances, as well as movement and improvisational techniques as they relate to choreography. Students learn the language of dance and are introduced to the styles, methods, and techniques of renowned choreographers. There is also the opportunity to audition for the Middle School Dance Company, which performs works choreographed by the school's dance faculty, guest artists from the community and, occasionally, dance students in the Upper School.
Upper School
The focus in dance centers on honing technical skills, allowing dancers to practice direction, rhythm, and movement through space. Many styles of dance are explored, and students are encouraged to experiment with new and creative approaches to dance technique. Performance opportunities are available through the Upper School Dance Company.
